A Hybrid Method for Deriving Dtms from Urban Dems

چکیده

This study focuses on the automatic extraction of DTMs from urban DEMs produced by image correlation. Many methods have been proposed in the literature yet processing correlation DEMs in any kind of areas remains a challenge. This paper presents a hybrid approach that combines complementary aspects of both TIN-based and segmentation-based techniques. Unlike previous work involving two complementary modules, the two techniques closely interact during the process. The DEM is first segmented and classified into ground and aboveground regions using contextual information. A DTM is then derived from the ground regions using a TIN-based technique. The classification and the DTM estimation are finally iteratively performed until stability. The hybrid approach for DTM extraction has been tested over several representative data sets and compared with the TIN-based and regionbased approaches applied independently. It clearly shows that coupling complementary approaches improves the quality of the resulting DTM, as well in dense urban areas as in rural or hilly areas.

Genealogical method of urban typo-morphology with the aim of deriving pattern for providing form-based codes

Introduction: The emergence of form-based codes (FBCs), along with the familiar and near-universal rejection of conventional zoning, is a complex story, and more interesting than might first be supposed. The Codes Study generally does not track developer-driven form-based codes. The socio-economic context of form-based codes has shown positive FBC impacts on physical and environmental well-bein...

Refinement of Urban Digital Elevation Models from Very High Resolution Stereo Satellite Images

Digital elevation models (DEM) of high resolution and high quality are required for many applications like urban modeling, readiness for catastrophes or disaster assessment. A good source for the derivation of such DEMs from any place in the world are very high resolution (VHR) satellite stereo images as provided e.g. by Ikonos, QuickBird or WorldView. In this paper a method for the generation ...

Dem Generation from Very High Resolution Stereo Data in Urban Areas

In this article an attempt for improving an existing method creating DEMs fully automatically from stereoscopic image pairs is presented. Results applying this method to very high resolution (VHR) satellite imagery is shown. The herein discussed “column” algorithm is illustrated in brief and compared to a conventional algorithm frequently used in generating DEMs from satellite line scanner data...

Fusion of Lidar Data and Aerial Imagery for a More Complete Surface Description

Photogrammetry is the traditional method of surface reconstruction such as the generation of DTMs. Recently, LIDAR emerged as a new technology for rapidly capturing data on physical surfaces. The high accuracy and automation potential results in a quick delivery of DEMs/DTMs derived from the raw laser data. The two methods deliver complementary surface information. Thus it makes sense to combin...

A Point Cloud Filtering Approach to Generating DTMs for Steep Mountainous Areas and Adjacent Residential Areas

Digital terrain models (DTMs) are considered important basic geographic data. They are widely used in the fields of cartography, land utilization, urban planning, communications, and remote sensing. Digital photogrammetry mainly based on stereo image matching is a frequently applied technique to generate DTMs. Generally, the process of ground filtering should be applied to the point cloud deriv...
